The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the official payment schedule for October 2025 so that beneficiaries may be apprised of when their financial assistance will be realized. On that schedule, grants for older persons will be paid first on Thursday, 2 October 2025, and then those for disabled persons on Friday, 3 October 2025, with all other grants, including Child Support, Foster Care, and Care Dependency grants, following on payments from Monday, 6 October 2025. These dates follow the system put in place by SASSA to ensure that payment processing goes without a hitch so that beneficiaries can spend planning their expenses.
Grant Amounts For October 2025
An increase in April 2025 has been the last upgrade, as such, there have been no revisions to keep the consumers abreast with the increasing costs. Persons older than 65 and persons who are disabled are to be paid R2,315 a month with a slight increase if one is older than 75. Child Support Grant recipients are to be paid R560 per child, with foster parents paid R1,250 per eligible child. The Care Dependency Grants for care-givers of children having very severe disabilities conform to those amounts paid to older persons and disability beneficiaries.
Eligibility Rules And Biometric Verification
According to the SASSA eligibility payment criteria, an applicant seeking payment must fulfill the following eligibility requirements: be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or legally recognized refugee residing in the country. Beneficiaries should be those under one of the specified grant types and meet the relevant means test with income and assets tested against a predetermined threshold. With effect from 1 September 2025, SASSA has required that new applicants undergo biometric enrolment, whether fingerprint or facial recognition, as an integral part of identity verification to curb fraudulent claims.
Important Advice For Beneficiaries
The SASSA has cautioned beneficiaries not to rush to the pay points on the first day of the payment. Whenever the grant money is credited to a bank account or a pay point, the funds would remain available and will not disappear if not withdrawn immediately. Beneficies will, however, be assisted if they make sure to have their personal details, including bank information, and contact numbers updated with SASSA to have a smooth, timely, and secure payment of grants.
Why The October 2025 Payments Matter
Again, the October 2025 payments are a crucial step in placing millions of South Africans holding onto hopes on some semblance of stability. In the face of increased cost-of-living pressures on households, SASSA payments continue to be the only lifeline available to older persons, persons with disabilities, foster families, and children across the country.
