Administered by SASSA, the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant continues to provide cash assistance for unemployed and impoverished South Africans. Allegedly priced for cancelling grants between April and September 2020, the SRD is reactive to inflation and the increasing costs of living. For 2025, a monthly 370 is paid. Beneficiaries are urged to keep themselves updated on status checks and payment schedules to access support continuously.
October 2025 Payment Schedule
For the disbursements in October, SASSA has put forth a temporary agenda. The exact date depends on application status and bank details of the payee, and the usual sequence for payment dates is:
- OtP Grants: on or about 2 October 2025
- Disability Grants: shortly thereafter, or about 3 October 2025
- Child Support and Other Grants: expected on the 4th of October, 2025
- SRD Grants: Disbursement will commence after the 15th of October, with payments being processed somewhere between the 20th and 30th of October, 2025
Beneficiaries are advised to periodically check the official SRD portal or WhatsApp notifications for details relating to their payout date.

Use the online SRD status checker for the state of your application or for the exact payment date. Enter your ID number and the phone number used during application to see if your SRD is approved, pending, or declined, working to avoid surprise delays.
Eligibility & Who Qualifies
The candidate must be eligible under some requirements to get the R370 SRD Grant:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or legally recognized refugee.
- Be 18 years of age and above and below 60 (adult unemployed category).
- Have no formal income or support and is not receiving any other social grants, UIF, or NSFAS funding.
- Provide correct identity and banking or payment details.
The new applications and amendments must go for biometric verification and submit proper documents; else, they will be rejected.
Note and Caution of Extreme Importance
- R370 must increase SRD payments: they cannot be, hence classified as relief;” No, it is not a permanent increase; it is a one-time additional payment for June 2025 … ”
- If you only have been given one payment in October, give it a few days. If the other payment does not arrive, try to check your SRD status or contact SASSA.
- Payments are issued automatically for eligible applicants, i.e., there is no need to reapply every month so long as one remains eligible.
