SASSA Double Payments September 2025 – Check If You Are Getting Extra This Month

Social media servers were busy during September with some alleged claims of alleged double payments from SASSA, or so the viral posts insisted. Come the 17th of September, many grant recipients now ponder whether there would be any additional payments serving as a cushion under the rising living costs. But official sources say-generic double payments do not exist. This article sets the myth to rest, tells about real payment dates, and awakens you on how to check your status, so you may not get scammed.

Double Payment Claims and the Truth

Normally, shady websites and social media pages spread the claim of double payments by SASSA in September 2025-for example, R4,360 for Old Age Grants instead of R2,180. Under names, such as conference pages with a respectable name or international pages totally unrelated, these try to dupe the public. Clearly, SASSA has warned against such frauds on numerous occasions, publicized through denial statements for months like June 2025, when chaos was created by the fake news about extra payments.

The official payments schedule for September, 2025.

To facilitate payments, SASSA started paying towards the new month. Presented below is the confirmed schedule as per the official announcement:

  • Old Age Grant: 2nd Tuesday September, 2025 (R2,180 to R2,200 varying with age, 60-74 or 75+).
  • Disability Grant: 3rd Wednesday September, 2025 (R2,180).
  • Child Support, Foster, and Care Dependency Grants: 4th Thursday September, 2025 (Child Support- R530; Foster- R1,180; Care Dependency- R2,180).
  • Social Relief of Distress Grant: 10-15 September, 2025 (R370, unchanged).

By 17 September, practically all beneficiaries should have been paid, with payslips already in the pockets of the SASSA issued cards and retail outlets such as Shoprite and Pick N Pay. No other rounds are planned, and will be the so-called “excess” cases will be isolated backlogs, not widespread.

Checking For Eligibility For Any Extras

Worrying that you may be left out? See below for official ways available to you, requiring neither downloading of an app nor you depending on some shady third-party sites:

  • USSD Code: Just dial *134*7737# or *120*3210# on your mobile phone.
  • WhatsApp: Send both your ID and reference number via WhatsApp to +27 82 046 8553.

If you are an acting in place of or holding the power of attorney for a beneficiary and there is still an unresolved delay, take identification and proof of income to the nearest SASSA office. Be reminded-legislation does stipulate that the claimant must be a South African citizen and resident and must reside below the limit-therefore, the agency is in the process of carrying out checks against fraudulent claims so that double-dipping may be avoided.

Warnings – Scam: And What Happens Then?

Bad news like this can very often be a fertile ground for phishing scams, with innocent users losing their identities for “extra claims”. SMSA neither solicits any money nor asks people to perform an action under some “option” communicated via unsolicited e-mails or messages from any member of the public. Always keep a lookout for these fraudulent scams and report them to authorities; never click outside of the gov.za limitations.
