An important update will be forthwith communicated to South African social grant beneficiaries in October 2025. According to the SASSA confirmations, it is assumed that a few beneficiaries will receive payments twice during October. This is a wider effort to restructure the payment of grants, allow for catch-up payments for late claims, and assist the most desperate. The bulk of the questions that arise from this process concern who is entitled, why there is this twin payout, and when the chances to collect will arise.
Why the Dual Payouts
There are a few reasons for the double payments during October 2025:
- Payment and Processing Delays- In one case, payment could not be made through no fault of the recipient and may have been due to technical or bank-related issues. For some, however, payment was only in part. Now, in October, the actual payment will be made together with the normal grant for amounts outstanding.
- Policy Adjustments and Increases – With the announcement for increased grants on the 15th of September 2025, SASSA is tuning up its system to ensure that the recipients of the respective grants get their adjusted correct amount. In some cases, recipients might be in a situation where they are paid twice: one at the increased rate, and the other at the missed rate.
Who Gets Two Payments?
Not every beneficiary will be paid twice. Double payments will generally be applied to:
- Old-Age Pensioners that were not paid in August or September due to system errors.
- Disability Grant Recipients with delayed verifications.
- Child Support Grant Beneficiaries with banking update delays.SRD R370 Grant holders in the case that relief payment for September was missed.
- SASSA confirmed only those identified for late payments shall be paid twice in October, whereas regular beneficiaries shall continue to receive a single grant payment monthly.
October 2025 Payment Dates
According to the payment list for October 2025 released by SASSA:
- Older Persons Grant: From Thursday, 3 October 2025
- Disability Grant: From Friday, 4 October 2025
- Children’s Grants: From Monday, 7 October 2025
- The R370 SRD Relief Grant: Will be paid in batches throughout the entire month, which means beneficiaries can expect confirmation of monies from the SMS.
Double payees will either see double amounts reflected along their allottees’ wallets at the time of collection or, within a few working days, depending on their mode of payment, bank account, Postbank card, and retail partners (Shoprite, Boxer, Pick n Pay, and Checkers).
How to Check If You Qualify
Beneficiaries can check for payment status via:
- Through SASSA’s online portal or mobile application .
- Or at their nearest SASSA office for further assistance.
- Checking for SMS from SASSA confirming double deposits, where applicable.
They are advised to ensure that their banking details are updated so as not to undergo further delays.
