SASSA Grant Payment Schedule October 2025: Who Gets Paid When

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the social grant payment schedule for October 2025. Beneficiaries should be aware of these dates so that they can access their funds in time. A staggered approach to payment will be followed during the month, starting with Older Persons and then other grants.

Key Payment Dates for October 2025

SASSA issued the following dates of payment for social grants:

  • Older Persons Grant: Thursday, 2 October, 2025
  • Disability Grant: Friday, 3 October, 2025
  • Child Support and Other Grants: Monday, 6 October, 2025
  • Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: Between 24 and 30 October 2025, on business days only

While older age, disability, and child grants are paid on set days, beneficiaries of the SRD grant will receive payments in batches on a few days during the last week of the month.

Current Values for Grants

The monthly payments for October will be made according to the following grant values:

  • The old age and disability grant: R2 315
  • Old age (75 and above) and war veterans: R2 335
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2 315
  • Child Support Grant: R560
  • Foster Child Grant: R1 250
  • SRD Grant: R370

Since these amounts stand as announced earlier in 2025, there have been no subsequent changes.

Payment System Changes

The main change will take place with expiry of SASSA’s contract with Postbank on the 30th of September, 2025. Beneficiaries will be urged to move to personal bank accounts or retailer-linked payments to avoid disruption. SASSA cards will still remain valid for use at ATMs and retail outlets but transfers directly into personal accounts will be encouraged to funnel funds faster.

Changing Bank Details Process

When beneficiaries want to change their payment method, they must provide proof of identity, a bank statement for not less than three months, or a letter from their bank confirming the account. These need to be submitted together with a signed consent form at a SASSA office prior to the 19th of the month for the change to be implemented.

Biometric Verification for New Applicants

Biometric verification has since been introduced for all new grant applications since September 2025 as a security feature, since this involves fingerprint or facial scans, rendering it difficult for fraudsters to claim grants and ensuring that inmates receive grants as in due course.
