The month of October 2025 is when South Africa is supposed to adjust the social grant amounts. These changes, therefore, affect the Disability Grant and other grants, with a price increase being implemented across the board. This adjustment of a mere R10, above the old amount of R2,310, represents a feeble attempt of the government to somewhat alleviate the harsh conditions of vulnerable citizens.
Payment Calendar for October 2025:
Beneficiaries must note the official disbursement dates for October 2025:

SASSA stressed that it is not obligatory for beneficiaries to rush on the first day of payments because payments remain accessible even after their release.
Who Is Eligible and How to Receive the Grant
A Disability Grant is disbursed in South Africa to qualified persons whose conditions working capability is hampered. While the original article does not go into the specific eligibility criteria, normally these include proving that one is disabled, being a South African citizen or having permanent residence, and undergoing the eligibility checks by SASSA.
Depending on the nature of the grant, one may have to provide such documents as medical reports, identity documents, and proofs of residence while applying. In some situations, they will have to go physically to SASSA for their application to be processed or to some authorised service points.
New applicants must also undergo biometric enrolment (fingerprint or facial scan) to reduce fraudulent claims and duplicate accounts. This requirement has been in effect since 1 September 2025.
Moving Things Up & What It It Means
This increase of R10 is made in two phases, said Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in his budget speech for 2025/26: the first increase in April, and a slightly lower increase in October. The increase is negligible but conveys the message of the government to protect the vulnerable sectors from the pressures of inflation and the economy.
SASSA assures beneficiaries that payments will continue without interruption and that the system is set for the October payments.
Important Notes & Tips for Beneficiaries
- Beneficiaries who wish to change the pay point they are registered to (for example, from SASSA card to bank account) must do so before the 19th of the month.
- Keep your personal and banking details up to date with SASSA so as to avoid granting delays or problems.
- Beware of scams or false grant offers; always check through the official SASSA website or recognised channels.
