SASSA Grant Increase October 2025 – Updated Payment Amounts And Payout Dates

Social grant payments were scheduled to start toward the end of October 2025, with PSASSA having given the full dates for payments. Among other things, beneficiaries are to take note of the amounts payable on the dates given, plus any other requirements that have to be met to ensure that payment goes through.

What Are The Updated Amounts of The Grant?

Perpetual social grants were increased in April 2025, according to the sharp increase in the cost of living, with the exception of SRD grants. These rates shall be effective till October. Hence, the new rates by grant type shall be:

  • Type of Grant Amount (From April 2025)
  • Older Persons Grant (60–74 year olds) & Disability: R2,315
  • Older Persons Grant (75 years and older): R2,335
  • War Veterans Grant: R2,315
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,315
  • Child Support Grant: R560
  • Foster Care Grant: R1,250
  • SRD Grant: R370

Note that unlike permanent grants, the SRD grant has yet to be increased and continues to pay at R370.

Significance of the Grant Increase

Increases occur as cost-of-livin adjustments that especially concern basic commodities for food, utilities, transport, and medicines-the extra grant money is intended to compensate for that which beneficiaries are facing. For most SASSA beneficiaries, grants are the primary source of income. Increases allow beneficiaries to guarantee their budget for the entire year.

Payout Dates for October 2025

One should know the constitution of funds, just as one should know their availability. Here are the firm payout dates for October 2025.

  • Grant Type: Older Persons Grant
  • Payment Date: Thursday, 2 October 2025
  • Disability Grant: Friday, 3 October 2025
  • All other children’s grants (Child Support, Foster Care, etc.): Monday, 6 October 2025

Payments for Social Relief of Distress grant are expected for later this month (between 24 and 30 October 2025).

Preparing Beneficiaries

In order to ensure that the grant is paid out in the right amount, beneficiaries should:

  • Ensure bank/payment details are correct and if there have been any changes in account numbers or addresses, these should promptly be updated with SASSA.
  • Check whether their contact details (phone number, address to receive SMS, or official notices) are up to date.
  • Take note of alternate payment points; in some cases, after incidents or closures of some SASSA offices, services might be temporarily rerouted by SASSA (this was also the case in Johannesburg after the closure of a number of branches halfway through September).
  • Be patient on payday, although payments do begin from the given dates, funds tend to remain available for some time, and certainly not many need to rush to draw their money on the very first day. The queues and rush hour would be heavy.

Limitations & What Has Not Altered

The SRD grant was not increased and still stands at R370. The increased grant amounts came into existence in April 2025; hence, there is no question of the October increase being new since it was merely continued for payments already uptaken.
