SASSA Grant Payments October 2025: Full List Of Dates And Updates

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) just confirmed the payment dates for social grants in October 2025. Beneficiaries have expected the grants to be paid from the first week of the month. The schedule began with an Older Persons Grant on Thursday, 2 October 2025, and the Disability Grant on Friday, 3 October 2025. All Children’s Grants and other social grants shall be paid from Monday, 6 October 2025. SASSA reminded beneficiaries that there is no need to rush on the first day because the funds will stay in accounts until withdrawal.

Updated Grant Amounts in October

On the heels of last year’s national budget announcement for 2025/26, most grant categories will receive an increase of R10 in October. The new amounts lend themselves as follows: Old Age and Disability Grants R2,320, Old Age for the over 75 and War Veterans, R2,340, Care Dependency Grant R2,320, Child Support Grant R560, and Foster Child Grant R1,250. The SRD Grant has been altered to R370. The increase is there to take some pressure off the increasing cost of living in South Africa.

Transition from Postbank Services

The contract between SASSA and the Postbank will run out on 30 September 2025. Although ATM machines and retailers will continue to accept SASSA cards, beneficiaries are encouraged to open their personal bank accounts or to be paid by retailer-linked methods. Any beneficial change in payment details should be filed on or before the 19th of the month along with proof of identification, bank confirmation, these are three-month statements. This change is primarily to facilitate streamlining payments and cutting down the long queues found at conventional payout points.

Biometric Enrolment for Fraud Prevention

To ensure fraud prevention and augment the level of operational system security, biometric enrolment was introduced by SASSA as a compulsory procedure for all new applicants from 1 September 2025. Over 42,000 clients have been successfully enrolled at slightly over 400 office locations nationwide. Biometric systems carry out the role of verifying the identity of applicants so as to limit fraudulent applications as well as illegal deductions from the accounts of beneficiaries.

Johannesburg Office Closure and Service Alternatives

Going after lynching corruption, in the very late hours of 15 September 2025, SASSA indeed did close its Johannesburg office temporarily with eight staff suspended pending investigations into fraud. Through this, payments will never go past the beneficiary, as beneficiaries are being redirected to Westbury Clinic, South Hills Community Hall, and Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre. The SASSA CEO, Themba Matlou, said that the march against fraud remains steadfast and that this will ensure uninterrupted payments, and shall never see payments going into fraudulent hands.
