SASSA October 2025 Warning: Steps To Avoid Losing Your SRD Grant

In October 2025, the South African Social Security Agency, through the Director-General, will confirm that payments for grants shall be processed during the first week of the month. Payments for Older Persons Grants will be made on the 2nd of October, for Disability Grants on the 3rd of October, and for Child Support and other grants on the 6th of October. Beneficiaries are informed that monies are available in the accounts after these dates, so they should not feel forced to withdraw funds immediately.

Updated Grant Amounts Across Categories

The article gives the monthly rates for grants as follows:

  • Aged 60 to 74: R2,315
  • Aged 75 and older: R2,335
  • Persons with disabilities: R2,315
  • War veterans: R2,335
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2,315
  • Foster Care Grant: R1,250
  • Child Support Grant: R560

Changes to Disbursement Channel & Exit of Postbank

The most important alteration comes to the notice when one learns that Postbank will stop its service contract with SASSA in October 2025. But SASSA reassures its beneficiaries that payments shall continue to be made uninterrupted. Beneficiaries will continue to use their SASSA cards at ATMs and retail stores. However, those wishing to change their mode of payment to a personal bank account or partner stores must do so before the 19th of the month by presenting evidence of banking documentation and completing an application form at their nearest local SASSA office.

Biometrics Verification Now Mandatory

From October 1, 2025, biometric enrolment, fingerprint, or facial recognition will have to be done for new applicants to be granted the application; hence, this has been done to curb fraud and strengthen the verification of an identity. So far, over 42,000 persons have been enrolled in 432 SASSA offices countrywide.

Checking Grant Status & Appealing Denials

There is still an option to appeal if your SRD grant application is refused. You have to access the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID and registered cell number, and then provide reasons and supporting documentation to challenge the decision hanging over you.

Using SASSA’s online services, you may check your status or ask via the SMS/USSD or WhatsApp service. In addition, there is a toll-free number available: 0800 60 10 11. Make sure that your personal details, such as your ID number, banking information, and contact number, are current. Outdated information may cause delays or even wrong rejections.

Beware of Scams & How to Report Fraud

SASSA cautions its clients against false claims in messages such as the latest ‘R700 grant’ circulating on the internet—the sort of offers that are simply not official. Always look for information from official sources: either from SASSA’s website, its various verified offices, or official phone/WhatsApp channels.

In case you suspect fraudulent activities or corruption, you may report to both of the anti-corruption hotlines (0800 701 701 or 0800 601 011), or by email, or by visiting publicservicecorruptionhotline.org.za.
