SASSA October Grant Payouts: Key Dates And Updates For Beneficiaries

To assist beneficiaries in planning their activities, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the grant payment schedule for October 2025. The Older Persons Grant will be paid first on Thursday, October 2, while the Disability Grant will be paid on Friday, October 3. All other payments, including Child Support and other social assistance grants, will be paid on Monday, October 6, 2025.

Current Grant Values

For October, SASSA reaffirmed the existing amounts granted for the different categories. Beneficiaries that fall between the ages of 60 and 74 under Old Age and Disability will be paid R2,315 per month, with R2,335 being paid to beneficiaries aged 75 and older. The War Veterans, Care Dependency, and Disability grants for qualifying candidates adhere to the same rates. The Foster Care Grant stands at R1,250, Child Support Grant at R560, and the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant at R370.

Changes to Payment Methods

Amongst the big changes for 2025 is the mechanism through which payment of grants will be effected to beneficiaries. The relationship with Postbank comes to an end as of 30 September 2025. But SASSA is very clear that there will be no disruption to actual payments. For the time being, SASSA cards will still operate at ATMs and retailers, but beneficiaries are encouraged to migrate to either personal bank accounts or retailer-linked options, where possible. All payment method changes require you to have a South African ID, proof of your bank account (a recent bank statement or confirmation which is stamped for newly opened accounts), and consent given at a SASSA office before or on the 19th of the month for the effective change to take effect from the next payment cycle.

Fraud Prevention & Identity Verification

For the prevention of fraud cases, SASSA has adopted an enhanced regime since 1 September 2025, integrating biometric enrolment (fingerprint or facial scans) in all new grant applications. More than 42,000 have been enrolled at 432 offices nationwide already. Beneficiaries are also advised to safeguard their personal information- PINs and banking details in particular-to prevent identity theft.

SRD Grant Alerts; Appeals and Reporting Scams

SASSA has issued a series of warnings and reminders:

  • If you have not applied for the R370 SRD Grant and feel that someone may have used your identity to apply, please check your SRD status on the portal or contact SASSA using their toll-free line or official email.
  • Missed out on your SRD grant application? There is an appeals process that is accessible through the official SRD portal. Frequently, the rejection happens because income may have been found on other sources or verification of documentation did not go through.
  • Beware of fake messages or social media claims, including those suggesting the existence of a “new R700 grant” that would not be issued by SASSA. People are cautioned by the agency to only rely on official channels for authentic information.
