In the first few days of every month, social grants are made by SASSA, and October and November 2025 are no exception. October payments start around the 3rd for older persons, with other grants following in the next couple of days. The November payouts, too, go in the early days of the month. As per the provinces and types of grants, beneficiaries are advised to keep an eye on official notices in their area.
Order of Payments & Grant Categories
SASSA implements the payment process, staggered across beneficiary groups, as per Priority and Needs. The possible order is:
- Older persons & persons with disabilities
- War veterans & care of disabled children
- Foster care and parental grants, and other general grants
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants
This gives preference to those that require funds the most.
Ways to Collect Grants
Several avenues enable recipients to get their grants:
- Bank Transfer: The money is deposited into your account, provided that your bank account number has been linked and verified.
- Cash Collection: Grant money can be taken in cash from approved merchants, SASSA-linked stores, or ATMs using a SASSA card.
- Post offices or partner pay-points: Post offices are usually an alternative when banks or merchants are at great distances.
If you change a banking account or switch banks, make sure to update the information with SASSA before the payment cycle commences or else you might get delayed payment.
How to Track Your Payment
Grant payments do not arrive on murmur – the days are checkable:
- SASSA website / portal: Logging in to the site with your ID or phone number will reveal the payment status.
- SMS/WhatsApp updates: SASSA may alert you as to when payments are set to hit accounts.
- A SASSA office or regulator’s notices: Local offices often publicly advertise or confirm payments dates.
Delays and Forewarned
Payments usually go through in the early days of the month but can very well get late. Instances of such late payments can be banking complications, public holidays, system updates, and administrative checks. However, your grant will stay in your account at payment points, whichever of the two you chose to collect payment from, until you actually collect it, even if you do not do it immediately.
