Grants get paid at the beginning of every month, with HIV/AIDS-related grants, foster care grants, and grants for the elderly being cashed-in first-and foremost, among others. Payment is expected at the start of October 2025, very often around the 3rd for the older persons, with other categories following thereafter. November disbursements follow the same pattern, where payments go out in the first few days of November, and beneficiaries are encouraged to check official notices as the dates can vary by province and even by the type of grant.
Order of Payments & Grant Categories
SASSA has, in general, adopted a staggered approach to disbursing grants. The usual payment sequence can be cited as follows:
- Old Age & Disability Grant
- War Veterans & Care Dependency Grants
- Child Support Grant, Foster Care, and Other Social Assistance Grants
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant, where applicable
This sequence is so that the most vulnerable recipients (senior citizens and persons with disabilities) are given payments relatively early in the payment cycle.
Where and How Payments Are Given
Payments to the beneficiary are made by one of the methods described below:
- Direct deposit into the verified bank account.
- Collection from pay points, retail partner outlets, or a SASSA card kiosk.
- Withdrawal from an appointed post office or an outlet specified as eligible by SASSA.
If your bank or account particulars have changed, you should make sure to update them prior to the payment window opening to prevent delays.
Tips on Checking Your Payment Status
How to find out the exact grant payment date:
- Use the SASSA portal, SMS, or WhatsApp service; enter your ID and phone number to check your payment status.
- Visit the nearest SASSA office or review the notices posted outside of it.
- Track payment days through SMS notifications and on SASSA’s official social media channels.
Watch out for delays and adjustments
A delay in payment can come about because of technical issues relevant to banking or holiday scheduling or payment checks for verification or system upgrades. Grants are paid late in some provinces for reasons related to logistics and administration. Do not bother if payment does not come on the stated date; check online for your status and follow up with your local SASSA office.
