SASSA Payment Suspension October 2025: Grants That Will Be Stopped

From 1 October 2025, the SASSA is cutting grants to those who have a monthly income of more than R8,070. This will affect all cash grants currently being disbursed, such as the Old Age Grants, Disability Grants, and Child Support Grants. The idea behind this new threshold is to make sure the social assistance goes to those truly in need.

Types of Grants Affected

The following types of SASSA grants are subjected to income capping:

  • Old Age Grant: For ppl aged 60 and above.
  • Disability Grant: Given to persons with disabilities.
  • Child Support Grant: For the caregivers of kids under 18.
  • Care Dependency Grant: For the caregivers of children with severe disabilities.
  • Foster Child Grant: For persons who take care of foster children.

Any person who is being paid under any of the above-mentioned grants and is earning in excess of R8,070 per month shall cease to receive payments within effect from October 1, 2025.

Verification of Income

SASSA shall carry out a verification to ascertain the income of the grant holders. Again, the beneficiaries may be requested to provide updated proof of income. A beneficiary that fails to co-operate on verification of income shall have his or her grant payments suspended.

Impact on Beneficiaries

Being a policy change, thousands of socially-disadvantaged South Africans still count on their social grants for financial support. Internship regarding those losing their grants is encouraged to seek other sources of income through less direct kinds, amongst others.
