These SASSA pensions form part of monthly social security assistance programs in South Africa, making provision for older citizens or persons with disabilities that fulfill the eligibility criteria. September 2025 Payment Dates

The payment schedule for September 2025 has been confirmed by SASSA. Beneficiaries should take note of the following dates:

  • Old Age Grants will be paid on Tuesday, 2 September 2025. 
  • Disability Grants will be paid on Wednesday, 3 September 2025. 
  • Child Grants and All Other Grants will be paid on Thursday, 4 September 2025. 
  • Just as usual, the Old Age Grant is paid before the other grants every month. 

How Much You’ll Receive In September 2025

The grant amounts for this period are:

  • R2,315 for Old Age (60-74 years) and Disability Grants. 
  • R2,335 for Old Age in respect of recipients aged 75 and older. 

These amounts are to reflect the government’s increase toward enabling pensioners and persons with disabilities to cope with rising living costs.

Qualification For The Pension Grant

Application for the SASSA grant is based upon meeting the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident or have refugee status and legally reside in South Africa.
  • Must be aged 60 or above upon application for the Old Age Grant.
  • Must not be receiving any other social grant on his/her own behalf.
  • Must not be in accommodation in a state institution.

Must meet income and asset criteria: An application for single status shall have annual income below R86,280 and assets valued less than R1,227,600, while if married with his/her spouse, combined income of the two shall be less than R172,560 and assets valued less than R2,455,200.

  • There are many ways in which money is paid to the beneficiaries:
  • They get money transferred to their bank accounts.
  • They are issued with a SASSA card to be used at ATMs or selected retail outlets.

  • Check your payment status: You can find out if your grant has been processed by sending your ID number via SMS to 31846. 
  • Make updates to your information with SASSA (banking, address, etc.) to avoid any delays. 
  • Plan your withdrawals: Avoid rushing to collect on the first day. Using the SASSA cards for purchases, or withdrawing in bits and pieces, helps to ease the queues.
