An official calendar from the South African Social Security Agency for Older Persons Grant payments was released in October 2025. As it stands, grants are at R2,315, I am guessing, with another special increase for the seventy-fivers, thereby raising it to R2,335. This financial support is the primary source of income for hundreds of thousands of elderly South Africans for their usual day-to-day expenses.
October 2025 Payment Dates for Seniors
The Official Payment Dates shall be:
- Older Persons Grant (Including Linked Grants): 2 October 2025.
- Disability Grant (Including Linked Grants): 3 October 2025.
- All Other Grants (Including Child Support Grants and Foster Care Grants): 6 October 2025.
This money would be first paid over to the senior citizens to grant early money access to those considered vulnerable.
New Grant Amounts for October 2025
After the increases upward in January this year, a new set of amounts would be paid to beneficiaries in October as follows:
- Older persons grant (below 75 years): 2,315 Rand
- Older persons grant (75 years and above): 2,335 Rand
Increases were meant to somewhat ameliorate the plight of inflation compounded with prices of necessities such as food, transport, and health.
How Seniors Can Access Their Payments
SASSA provides a few methods for grant payment that make it safer and more convenient for beneficiaries to access their grants. These include:
- Direct deposit to bank account – The safest method to accept funds, with grants deposited directly into the bank account of the beneficiary.
- SASSA Gold Card – Can be used at an ATM, retail shops, and post offices.
- Cash Pay Points – For those seniors living in remotest areas, SASSA still operates pay points on given dates.
The beneficiaries should not instantly go on depositing their money on Day One of pay out as sometimes, funds expire-in the accounts until cash out.
The Elderly Should Know
Avoid the Scammer: SASSA has cautioned the elderly about a few fraudsters who may approach them for “help” in withdrawing the money. For that reason, it has been emphasized for beneficiaries to just never share their PINs with anyone nor disclose any of their personal information.
- Grant Reviews: Sometimes beneficiaries have to undergo the review to verify if they still qualify as beneficiaries. Seniors should keep their personal details updated with SASSA.
- Accessibility Support: Should seniors encounter any mobility problems, they may appoint a trusted person to collect their grant upon submission of the necessary documents.
