SASSA R2,320 Disability Grant 2025: Eligibility Rules And Payout Dates

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced an increment in Disability Grant for October 2025. From 1 October 2025, the monthly Disability Grant will increase from R2,310 to R2,320; a 10-rand hike to assist disabled residents in managing their day-to-day as well as health. 

Who Qualifies for the Disability Grant of R2,320?

The Disability Grant is given to those who fulfill the following basic qualifications:

  • Age: Between 18 and 59 years.
  • Citizenship: Should be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.
  • Residency: Must be residing in South Africa.
  • Disability: Severe, permanent disability for at least 6 months.
  • Medical Assessment: State-qualified medical doctors certify the disability under review.

Income and Assets:

  • Single Persons: Annual income below R86,280 and assets below R1,227,600.
  • Married Persons: Combined income below R172,560 and combined assets below R2,455,200. 

State Institution: Must not be receiving care in a state institution.

Application Process for the Disability Grant

In application of the Disability Grant:

1. Gather Required Documents:

  • 13-digit bar-coded identity document (ID).
  • Medical assessment report from a state-appointed doctor.
  • Proof of income and assets.

2. Submit Application:

  • Complete the application form at your nearest SASSA office.
  • Submit all gathered documents for verification.

3. Processing Time:

  • Within 3 months is the usual time taken to process the applications.

4. Payment Method:

  • Grant payment will be made either through  bank accounts, cash payments at designated pay points, or payment points in Postbank.  The application forms need to be verified at all points.

Date of Payment: October 2025

On the 3rd day of October 2025, a Friday, a payment of R 2,320.00 shall be given to the disability grant beneficiaries. Beneficiaries are thus urged to cash their grants at their earliest convenience and not to wait till the last minute. 

Importance of the Disability Grants

The Disability Grant provides the basis of livelihood for persons with disabilities and thus safeguards the necessities of daily living and health. A recent enhancement points to a faith on the part of the government, towards improving the general living standards of the disabled in South Africa.
