The R560 SASSA Child Support Grant provides essential income to the disadvantaged low-income families in the country which have to take care of their children. The SASSA raises the grant for every child from R530 to R560 in April 2025. Though rumors of another adjustment by October persist, there has yet to be an official statement on the matter so that for October 2025, the prevailing amount is still R560.
Purpose and Scope of the Grant
This grant helps caregivers provide for the basic necessities of children such as food, clothing, school requisites, and others. It is the backbone for many households maintaining the child’s needs and reducing the heavy burden of caring for children.
Qualifying Conditions for the Child Support Grant
Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the R560 Child Support Grant in October 2025:
- The applicant must himself be the primary caregiver of the child. It could be a parent, foster parent, grandparent, or a person over the age of 16 heading a household.
- If the primary caregiver is not the biological parent, there must be some supporting documentation (e.g., affidavits, letters from the child’s school, social worker, etc.) to establish that the applicant is the primary caregiver.
- The applicant and child must be South African citizens or residents.
- The caregiver’s income stands below R52,800 per annum (if single). If married, the combined income should not exceed R105,600 per annum.
- The child should be below 18 years and may not be placed in any state institutions.
- The child should stay with the caregiver, and the caregiver should not receive any payment or grant for caring for that child.
- The producer cannot claim for more than six non-biological or non-adopted kids.
These qualifying conditions ensure that support lands in the laps of those families who really depend on this relief.
What’s New for October 2025
Though one expects a further increase come October 2025, no official announcement has been made yet. Until then, the grant amount remains R560 as confirmed for the month. The possibility to grant increase by inflation or budgetary reviews remains current; however, caregivers should assume the present rate stands.
