SASSA R700 Grant 2025: Key Details, Application Steps & Payment Schedule

Newly in place by SASSA for the needy citizens is the R700 Social Relief of Distress Grant. In this way, it attempts to relieve the economic pressure families face when trying to secure very basic needs such as food, transport, etc.

Who Is Eligible For The R700 Grant?

The following are the criteria to qualify for the R700 SRD grant:

  • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen or a legal resident with legally accepted documentation.
  • Age: Should be 18 years and older.
  • Income: Below the income threshold of SASSA for each month.
  • Exclusivity: Cannot benefit from other forms of government financial assistance including UIF, NSFAS, or any other SASSA grants.

This is a grant that will not be disbursed automatically: a person seeking assistance shall have to apply for it.

How To Apply For The R700 Grant

Two options can be selected to submit an application:

Apply Online:

  • Visit the official website of SASSA.
  • Complete the online application form by filling in accurate personal details as well as details about income and identification.
  • Then submit it online.

In-Person Application: 

  • Find your nearest SASSA office or service point. 
  • Present your SA identity, together with any other documentation required. 
  • Complete the application form, with assistance from SASSA staff if necessary. 
  • Once submitted, your application will be reviewed; if approved, you should receive confirmation by SMS or email. 

Payment Methods And Schedule: 

On being approved, applicants may receive their R700 grant through various channels: 

  • Bank Transfer: Directly deposited into a registered bank account. 
  • Retail Partners: Collections at stores such as Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, and Pick n Pay. 
  • Postbank Debit: Withdrawal from Postbank ATM or Postbank branch. 

The Payment Schedule Goes Like This:

  • Older Persons: Payments issued first. 
  • Disability Grant Holders: Payments are second. 
  • Other grant holders: Payments issued as the last. 

The payment to the R700 grant holders commenced in September 2025, thus the schedule was set up in tandem with this order to allow for orderly disbursement.
