SASSA Senior Pension Grant October 2025: Full Payment Dates and Schedule Released

The Senior Age Pension Grant (sometimes referred to as the “Old Age Grant”) is a monthly social assistance payment disbursed through SASSA to sustain older South Africans who have stopped working and have little to no income. The grant ensures pensioners can satisfy their nutritional needs, medical requirements, utilities, and other basic living expenses. For the month of October 2025, a timetable for the payment of this pension has been published by SASSA. 

Application Period & How to Apply

The application period for the October 2025 grant will open on 1 October 2025 and will close on 30 October 2025. Applicants can apply online at the SASSA website or present themselves physically at the SASSA offices. Personal and financial information is submitted online and offline to verify eligibility. Upon approval, payments will either be credited to the bank accounts of approved applicants or made available at SASSA pay points.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a Senior Age Pension Grant, an applicant has to fulfill certain requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident, or have valid refugee status.
  • Be of a certain age: if a female, at least 60 years; and, if a male, at least 65 years.
  • Have a valid South African identity document, which may either be the smart ID card or the green identity document (ID).
  • Permanently residing in South Africa.
  • Must meet the means test for limited income and assets.
  • Currently is not receiving, or has not receive certain other forms of government support such as a disability grant, or child support in the person’s own name.
  • Cannot stay full-time in a state residential home that grants them coverage for all of their basic needs.

Required Documents

Applicants are required to produce the following documents when applying:

  1. Certified copy of the South African ID (smart card or old ID)
  2. Proof of residence (a copy of a utility bill showing a physical address)
  3. Bank details (those who want money via direct deposit)
  4. Evidence of income or assets (if any)
  5. Completed SASSA application form
  6. If an application is submitted on behalf of the applicant, proof of authorization or power of attorney must be provided
