SASSA Social Grants Increase October 2025: New Payment Amounts Revealed

A confirmation by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) was that rises to all permanently paid social grants would begin in the October 2025 payment cycle. (Facebook) The decision came about in terms of government undertakings aimed at making sure that the aid would not lose value by inflation and rise in cost of living.

How Much Will They Increase?

According to the national budget of 2025, important social grants had undergone an adjustment earlier this year. Some of these include:

  • For old age, disability, and care dependency grants, R130 was added to bring the monthly amount to R2,315.
  • The war veterans’ grant was also increased by R130.
  • The foster care grant was further increased by R70.
  • The child support grant and grant-in-aid were increased by R30 to R560 a month.

The increases for October will be the continuation of adjustments to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries enjoy the benefits.

Why These Increases Are Being Made

Since rising prices and inflationary pressures have been slowly and progressively thinning the purchasing power of social assistance, the government has specially developed a good budget to address the vulnerable groups. About R284.7 billion will be allocated for social grants in the 2025/26 fiscal year.

An increase in the grant value will thus grant social assistance recipients some purchasing ability for food, health care, basic utilities, etc. It also seeks to ensure some dignity for pensioners, caregivers, and all other individuals who depend on social grants.

Payment Schedule & Collection Advices

To promote better planning and lessen congestion at payment points, SASSA has published the 2025 Payment Schedule for Social Grants.

Some Themes Include:

  • Older Persons Grant payments begin from the third working day of each month.
  • Disability grants follow on the fourth working day.
  • Children’s and other grants are granted from the fifth working day and onward.

A reminder to recipients: even if a grant begins on the scheduled day, funds remain available afterwards. Beneficiaries should verify their payment method and ensure that their banking or SASSA-card account details are updated so that there will be no delay.

What Beneficiaries Should Do
