Plenty of warnings are being aired about the sudden dip in temperatures coupled with heavy rainfall expected over some parts of South Africa. The interior of the eastern half of the Eastern Cape is set for very cold conditions, beginning Monday, 29 September 2025. For the western portions of this province, the forecast will be partly cloudy, cool to cold weather with isolated showers in places, especially over the southern escarpment and coastal interior.
In the meantime, the eastern half of the Eastern Cape will have more cloud cover and rain in a scattered manner, more so over inland areas where the cold will really bite. Along the coasts, winds are expected to stay light to moderate from the south-easterly direction, eventually turning easterly as the day progresses.
KwaZulu-Natal To Face Cold Showers, Possibly Storms
KwaZulu-Natal will be cloudy, cool to cold, with showers and thunderstorms developing widely. The southwestern sections of the province will have especially low temperatures. Winds along the coast are expected to be from a moderate to fresh level from the southerly to south-easterly directions.
Against Heavy Rain and Flooding Risk: Common Weather Warnings
Several weather warnings have been issued by meteorologists:
- A level 4, yellow warning is granted to to severe thunderstorms with torrential downpours. Potential flash floods can affect low-lying and flood-prone areas, and they may cause damage to property with localized wind or hail damage-specifically over central and northern KwaZulu-Natal.
- A level 2, yellow warning exists for associated conditions of heavy rain, possible flooding, and damaging winds over the extreme eastern Free State.
- Another level 2, yellow warning exists for disruptive rain in southern KwaZulu-Natal, leading to localized flooding, slippery roads, and poor visibility.
No warnings for fire dangers stand in place at the moment.
What Should Residents Do
Basically, these advisories foreshadow certain precautions for locals in the affected fields:
- Do not venture into flooded areas or low-lying roads unless you have to.
- Tie down or secure all loose items and secure all windows and doors against possible strong winds or hail.
- Allow for slippery roads and decreasing visibility in heavy rains.
- Have a full view of all updates from the South African Weather Service and hearken to any new alerts or modifications to existing ones.
- People living in flood-prone areas should consider going to higher ground at short notice.
The weather forecast underlines the kind of cold wet weather with sporadic storms expected over the next few days across eastern parts of South Africa.
