Strong winds, rainfall, and even snow are forecasted for some provinces on the strike of Thursday, 2 October 2025. The SALW warns a cold front traversing the country will bring in disruptive and unsettled conditions.
What to Expect Across Provinces
1. Gauteng & Interior Regions
- Gauteng will feel warm with mostly good weather during the morning but later turning to partly cloudy over southern areas.
- More to the north, light rain or drizzle is expected to occur in the Lowveld and escarpments of regions such as Mpumalanga. Limpopo may find the southern escarpment waking up to drizzle, with conditions warmer and more stable elsewhere.
2. Western & Northern Cape
- Going into the Western Cape, expect cloudy skies for the territorial southern regions with light rain to the coastline. Winds will increase to a fresh south-westerly to near strong on coastal areas.
- Meanwhile, the Northern Cape will start off with cool and overcast weather in the west before giving way to warm and windy patterns.
3. The Eastern Cape & The Snow Risk
- The Eastern Cape is on the radar. The western half of the province is expected to be cloudy and cold with isolated showers with the possibility of snow on some isolated mountain peaks. The eastern half will be cold with scattered rain and snow on high ground. Coastal winds will be fresh to strong south-west.
4. KwaZulu-Natal
- Early-morning fog may cover the interior. Then, cloudy, cool to cold conditions with isolated showers will prevail over the region, with coastal areas facing variable winds that will later become fresh to strong south-westerlies.
Alerts & Warnings
SAWS has placed Level-2 (Yellow) warnings in place for damaging winds, especially for the areas between Port Edward and Richards Bay. These winds may hinder navigation or cause some inconvenience to local ports.
No significant warning for fire danger or any other advisory was active at the time of the forecast.
What You Should Do
- Dress in layers, and anticipate rapid weather changes, especially if going to mountainous or coastal areas.
- Avoid any nonessential travels in places where strong winds or rain are expected. Roadways may be slippery and visibility is low.
- Keep an eye out for local forecast and weather alert from SAWS or trusted weather apps.
- Keep watching conditions and plan accordingly if residing in any high-altitude/snow-prone areas, especially in the Eastern Cape.
