SASSA Senior Pension Grant October 2025: Official Payment Dates Released

SASSA Older Persons Grant was also popularly called Senior Age Pension. It is monthly support payment paid to aged South Africans who lack income and asset base. The act assists aged citizens in retaining their dignity and meeting their basic needs of food, medicine, and transport. For October 2025, monthly pay amounts remain at R2,180 for applicants aged 60 to 74 years and R2,200 for applicants aged 75 years and above.

October 2025 Payments

According to the SASSA calendar, the Older Persons Grant (whether accompanied by a Grant-in-Aid or not) is to be the first grant to be paid in the monthly cycle. Payments are thus expected to begin during the first week of October 2025 before the release of payments for Disability, Child Support, and other social Grants. Beneficiaries may collect their funds via direct deposit to their bank account, by SASSA gold cards that allow access through ATMs, or from authorized retail outlets throughout the country.

Why Timing Is Crucial for Pensioners

Timing is considered very important for the elderly, as these funds constitute the much-needed backbone of a month-to-month household budget. Pensioners knowing what day they will be paid allows them to prepare for food, medicine, rent, or lights, with a degree of certainty. SASSA also encourages grant holders not to rush to collection points just on the first day of disbursement, as beneficiaries have quite a reasonable time wherein they may withdraw their funds from their bank accounts after the official payment date, thereby reducing congestion and easing access for more vulnerable individuals.

Eligibility Criteria for the Older Persons Grant

There are several requirements that candidates must fulfill in order to qualify for the Older Persons Grant. The applicant, in respect of the grant, must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or recognized refugees residing in the country. He or she must therefore be 60 years or older and must satisfy a means test, i.e., must show a limited income and assets. They must also not already be receiving another social grant in their own name with the exception of a Grant-in-Aid.
