The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has made available the dates on which the disbursement of the various types of grants takes place during October 2025. Beneficiaries are requested to take note of the exact dates pertaining to their grants so as to carefully plan their finances and avoid grievous queues or delays.
Grant-By-Grant Schedule
According to SASSA, the official grant dates in October 2025 are:
- Old Age Grant: Thursday, 2 October
- Disability Grant: Friday, 3 October
- All Other Grants (Child Support Grant included): Monday, 6 October
These staggered payment dates aim to have the effect of spreading out grant collections, which in turn would alleviate congestion at pay points.
Reminders To The Beneficiaries
SASSA insists that beneficiaries need not whip themselves into a frenzy crowding ATMs or pay points on the first day of payment. The fund will remain in the respective accounts of beneficiaries beyond the dates of starting payment. Beneficiaries ought to take their grants whenever is convenient for them during the payment period.
Any clarification required by or assistance needed by an applicant may be sought by dialing the toll-free helpline number 0800 60 10 11. Alternatively, an applicant may visit a nearby SASSA office. Guidance, including the location of offices and further instruction, is also available on the official SASSA website.
Biometric Enrollment Is Now A Mandate
From the 1st of September 2025, a biometric enrolment will be part of every new SASSA grant application. This includes fingerprint scans or facial recognition. According to SASSA, the operation is necessary to curb fraud, avoid duplication/grant misuse, and ensure payments are made only to eligible recipients.
The agency also confirmed that all training of staff members has been completed and all systems have been upgraded to facilitate this operation.
Grant Increases From April 2025
In line with the increased cost of living and inflation, as of April 2025, SASSA has increased the amounts of several grants. These include:
- Old Age Grant from R2 185 to R2 315
- Disability Grant in like measure, from R2 185 to R2 315
- Child Support Grant from R530 to R560
Insofar as the position of SASSA is to promote vulnerable groups while remaining fiscally sustainable, these increases are entirely consistent with their stance.

An update of personal details such as banking information and identification is also very important to ensure that no issues arise down the line when collecting funds.
