SASSA R2315 Old Age Grant October 2025: Full Provincial Payment Schedule

As of October 2025, it is anticipated that the Old Age Grant will be adjusted, with SASSA granting R2,315 to new beneficiaries between 60 and 74 years, and R2,335 to those 75 years and over. This increase is a necessary consideration for the rising cost-of-living, the inflation pressure, and continuation of protective measures for faces of aging populations.

Old Age Grant Payment Date

SASSA has set Thursday, 2 October 2025, as the date on which the payments for the Old Age Grant would be made. These would be followed by the dispersal of Disability Grants on the 3rd of October and child/other social grants on the 6th. The dates set for the dispersal of SRD (Social Relief of Distress) grants are somewhere between the 24th and 30th of October.

Changes and Status Quo

The R10 bump will be applied in October 2025 to most main grants. This small small bump takes with it the Old Age Grant, moving it from its previous level to the newly stated R2,315 or R2,335 level: The decision is based on the two-phase adjustment program of SASSA with earlier increases earlier in the year and October being the second phase.

On the other hand, Child Support, Foster, and Grant-in-Aid amounts remain as they are in this current payment cycle.

Who Qualifies and What You Need

To receive the old age grant, applicants must:

  • Be 60+ years of age.
  • Be South African citizens, permanent residents, or recognized refugees.
  • Meet means test criteria whereby income, assets, and other qualifying monetary thresholds come under examination.
  • Submit proof of legal identity and proof of residence.
  • Not receive any other grant under their own name (except if combined with Grant-in-Aid).
  • Those 75+ receive a higher rate (R2,335), which acknowledges additional vulnerability.

Things Beneficiaries Must Do

  1. Check the status of your grant on SASSA to verify that it is active.
  2. Check your banking details and see if they are correct; if changes are requested, they have to be done before a stipulated cut-off date to avoid discrepancies.
  3. Set the date of the 2nd of October (or whichever day the payment for your grant type falls on) as a reminder to collect the payment.
  4. If you do not get the payment within a few business days, either visit SASSA in the area or call in to their helpline.
